Spell Bee - Command On Spellings

 

Event Description : "Spellbee", as we all know is a plain old spelling competition. But this time around, it has a lot more to it! With fun-packed yet informative rounds, knowing only the spellings to some words wont help, you have to be a "word guru" to win it all!

 

Registration Rules :

• A team can have 2 members. Individual participants are also welcome.

 

Event Rules:

 

The event shall comprise of 3 rounds which are as follows:

Round 1:

• This will be a written round consisting of 30 MCQs. The time limit will be 7 minutes. Only top 10 teams will move on to the next round.

Round 2:

• In this round, the teams will be given a crossword to solve. The clues for the crossword will contain the meanings of certain words and the participants will have to find the correct words in the crossword.

• Only top 5 teams will move on to the next round.

Round 3:

• The final round will be a theme based round. There are 5 themes in this round. Each theme has 10 words- one word to be spelt out and the other to be pronounced by each participant.

• This round sees the introduction of negative marking. Points will be deducted for every wrong answer.

• If at all, by the end of 5 themes, there emerges a tie, a tie breaker round is to be played- which is essentially of the same format.

 

Guidelines:

• Access to any dictionary or electronic device is prohibited.

• Both American and British spellings of the words are accepted.

• The teams shall be disqualified for use of any prohibited aid or on grounds of indiscipline.

• Decision of judges after each round shall be final and binding.
